OOBI Beta - OOBI version next

After the app laudable success of OOBI multitouch installation at DDS 2008 , we wanted to take it to the next level and build an advanced standalone multitouch table similar to MS surface.

With constant encouragement & support from Prof Ravi Poovaiah we continued this project at IDC (http://www.idc.iitb.ac.in/) and worked on weekends.
We intented to finish and put it up in DDS 2009 (http://www.dds2009.org/home.html). But the trials took a lot longer than expected . Finally Saurav joined the team and together we could achieve some exciting results.

Though the final table is not yet finished we are hoping to complete it by Nov first week. However we already named it as OOBI- beta [Next version of OOBI :) ]

Following images show different stages of the project:
1. Acrylic sheet with frame2. Top frame

3.Compliance surface

4.Camera

5. Trial set up

6. Final working setup [Saurav's hands- on]

Some fun moments

I am not sure if I should acknowledge now only , as we still have to finish the final table.
But there is always a room for a Thank You !! :)

All the first thanks a lot to Ravi Sir for his support & motivation, without whom we would not have come this far.

Thanks (in fact no thanks :P) to Kumar & Atish who are the true initiators for OOBI series and I am glad to take forward the work they have started.

A loads of thanks to NUI community for their resources and timely help. This community created new & great friends like Sharath Patali, Saurabh, Taha who were always ready to chip in for any help.

Then ofcourse the IDC folks:
Mandar who's great friend & supported hugely with initial infra & logistics.
Thanks Rohan for sticking around the long nights , supplying food & bedsheets :P
Thanks to Avaneet alias Chacha, Abhishek, Saarang, Darshan....for giving company & suggestions

Well, as I said the project is not yet finished and this is a To Do list for as of now:
  1. Build a better & more durable compliance surface
  2. Design & Construct the table
  3. Trials with PS3 cam
  4. Try out more apps

Shall keep updating the progress on the blog.
